Ivanhoe's grape picking is all done for this year. The Cabernet Sauvignon at the base of the hill was the last variety to be hand picked.
Stephen and Tracy went to the winery recently to check on the the progress of the 2011 wines. WOW, to say we had quite a tricky vintage the wines are looking fabulous. Especially the Semillon and Verdelho, the Pressings of the Shiraz and the Chambourcin.
We look forward to keeping you updated on the progress.. in the meantime you can always savour one of our previous wines...
According to Hunter vineyard Ivanhoe Wines the unpredictable weather patterns we have been experiencing should not stop a great vintage!
We have had a good growing season since budburst in Sept and good rainfall which has given the vines a great canopy says Stephen Drayton of Ivanhoe Wines. This is important as the canopy helps protect the bunches while they ripen he said.
Ivanhoe usually commences picking mid to late January. This year harvesting started today, a little later to ensure the grapes are harvested at their premium maturity.
The Ivanhoe Shiraz is looking particularly special with great colour development and balanced acid and sugar. It is certainly looking like an enjoyable drop.
As I like to say – a great wine starts in the vineyard and this year is looking great.
